McQueen
Since 2021, A Team Arts Education has collaborated closely with McQueen fashion brand to provide valuable opportunities for young people through a dedicated sponsorship offer.
This partnership has been instrumental in supporting the Explore Programme which includes trips and hands-on projects delivered at the Brady Centre.
These initiatives have enabled participants to develop essential skills and gain valuable insights into potential career paths within the fashion and textiles and related industries.
Ophelia Paper Doll Making: 2022
Working closely with the Alexander McQueen Design Team and McQueenCreators, this project explored how to make paper dolls, taking inspiration from those made in the Alexander McQueen atelier.
These dolls, or maquettes, are used to visualise the placement of fabric and embroideries on garments on a small scale.
Garment Construction: 2023
Taking inspiration from an iconic White Dress from McQueen Spring/Summer 2020 collection and working closely with their Design Team, young people explored how to develop skills through practical workshops in research, design, pattern cutting, garment construction and teamwork, with an emphasis on accuracy.
Insect Puppets: 2023
Making insect puppets out of fabric for stop motion animation.
Plant Animation: 2023
Taking inspiration from the course theme: Community, Heritage, and Environment.
Using storytelling and animation techniques young people documented and made a film focused on the life cycle of a local plant or tree within the environment.
Visual/ Fashion Communication : 2024
This four-day Visual / Fashion Communication course was an opportunity to bring together many different areas including fashion, fine art and photography to create content for a live campaign on global issues.
Group displays, photography, and a zine documenting the work were created.
Creative Cut and Drape: 2025
This course developed from the success of the Visual/ Fashion Communication Skills Programme 2024.
The theme for 2025 centred on different styles of portraiture, focusing on collars and ruffs of the Tudor and Stuart periods when both women and men wore equally flamboyant fashions.
Following an inspirational research trip to the National Portrait Gallery, the course introduced young people to design development, pattern cutting and garment construction.
Finally, they styled and photographed a fashion shoot, working with Hannah Horton to edit and curate their work.
This exceptional opportunity to work with McQueen’s own highly skilled atelier team, with support from their Brand Editorial and Education Team, gave young people a unique opportunity to work with a major brand, learning how to communicate strong ideas visually and creatively.
