Experimental Weave

2022

The Experimental Weave Lab provided valuable insights and opportunities for young people to explore and learn about studying textiles options at different levels.

Two exceptional alumni from UAL: Central Saint Martins Weave Pathway — Ambar Roper and Sarah Ward — provided exciting workshops exploring off-loom weaving techniques. Their strong experimental approach has led to wonderful work being created.

Sarah Ward kindly returned to lead the textiles workshops for the Summer Art and Design Academy courses that summer. Her enthusiasm and passion for teaching has led to more young people taking up weaving than ever before. We hope this trend continues and is the start of a new initiative to help bring back traditional craft skills to the East End of London where they once flourished.
