Collective Patchwork

2023 - 2024

Over twenty-six young creatives have been working with artists, designers and craft practitioners, alongside St Margaret’s House curator Elizabeth Stone, to develop an exhibition specifically for the Gallery Café. The exhibition is heavily influenced by the time spent together at Saturday workshop sessions in the inspirational Art Room at The Brady Centre.

Following many activities and discussions, a theme emerged. The artworks on display are inspired by abstract and textural forms found in and around the Art Room. They are a response to how the young creatives feel about the space and what the sessions mean to them.

The exhibition features multiple techniques: cyanotype, embroidery, weaving, and coiling, all of which are new processes learnt and developed by the young creatives. Each coil is meticulously made by an individual and then tied together to represent their individual selves in their creative community. Each yarn woven represents the colourful and unique identities that come together. Each cyanotype considers exquisite detail, representing their collective skills and abilities.
